Adoption: save the children

The Mail is shocked by a report that claims that the average time children wait to be adopted in council care is two years and seven months. The paper believes that legal haggling is the main source of delay, claiming that lawyers are using the Human Rights Act cynically: “So, yet again, this pernicious law is harming the innocent. And the irony is that this is happening behind the veil of secrecy that shrouds the family courts, supposedly to protect the young. The system is so inefficient that only 60 babies were adopted from care last year, while 65,000 children languish, with their hopes of adoption fading.”
